Meta Tag Checker

Enter the title, description, H1 and OG title. Catch length and consistency problems before the page goes live.

Use the tool

What does it do?

This tool checks a page's title, meta description, H1 and Open Graph title for length and consistency. It uses 50-60 characters for titles, 120-160 for descriptions and 20-70 for H1s. It warns when the H1 is identical to the title. Results are colour-coded as good, warning or error. The goal is to catch visible meta mistakes before publishing. The tool does not measure search ranking or click-through rate.

How do you use it?

Copy all four fields from the page source or CMS. Run the check before publishing and fix each warning one by one. Keep the main idea when shortening a title; do not add filler sentences to reach a description length. An empty OG title falls back to the title, but entering a separate one lets you control the share card. Finally, confirm that the H1 visible on the page matches the H1 you entered.

What are its limits?

The tool looks at text length and a few basic rules only. It does not measure keyword density, search intent, ranking or click performance. Character limits are approximate; Google can rewrite a snippet by query. On multilingual pages, assess language-specific length differences separately. Your input is not sent to a server. A real example

I audited the local SEO guide's meta fields. The title is short, the description is in range and the H1 differs from the title.

Example input

Title

Description

H1

OG title
(empty)

Example output

  • Title: 40/60 — short (warning).
  • Description: 133/160 — within range.
  • H1: 53/70 — within range; not identical to the title.
  • OG title empty — falls back to the title (info).

Frequently asked questions

Can the H1 and title be the same?

They can be, but using identical text wastes one of the two fields. The title appears in search results; the H1 appears on the page. Different phrasing can help cover a wider range of keywords.

What happens if the title exceeds 60 characters?

Google usually truncates the excess or rewrites the title. That is not always bad, but the end of your message may disappear. Keep the most important information first.

Why check the OG title separately?

The OG title appears on social share cards; the title appears in search results. They do not have to match. You may want a shorter, more curiosity-driven headline for sharing.

Does the tool check keywords?

No. It checks length and a few consistency rules. Keyword relevance, search intent and competition need a separate analysis.

Prepared by Merve Algan, SEO & GEO Manager. Published on 3 November 2026.
How
Method: the checks were matched to the 50-60, 120-160 and 20-70 windows in the same repository's meta.ts and serp.ts files. The example uses the real tags of the live local SEO guide.
Why
Purpose: catch visible meta mistakes in one screen before publishing. The tool does not replace a full SEO audit; it provides a quick pre-flight check.
